The unit for other specialties consists of the following:
Cytology
Cytology is a medical specialty at Sunce Polyclinic that provides fast, reliable and practically painless diagnostics of changes in solid organs and tissue (puncture of breasts, thyroid glands, cysts, lymph nodes, soft tissue), and cervical changes (Pap test), while taking into consideration the condition of your overall health, and implementing an individual and interdisciplinary approach in our everyday activities. At Sunce Polyclinic, we also perform breast excretion analysis, nasal smears for eosinophils, differential blood count, myelogram (čini mi se da je myelogram) and urine analysis. In a comfortable, calm and relaxed atmosphere, without rush, anxiety or anticipation, place your trust in our hands and eliminate any doubts or fears in terms of your health and condition.
The importance of cytology can be best seen in tumor diagnostics, where the material is obtained by means of a puncture with a fine needle (aspiration cytology), in most cases controlled with an ultrasound. The most common changes that are to be punctured are changes in the thyroid gland, breast and lymph nodes. These punctures are performed as outpatient services. The procedure lasts 10 to 15 minutes, whereas the puncture itself lasts only a few seconds. Breast puncture is recommended between 5th and 8th day of your menstrual cycle when the breasts are the least sensitive, and when morphological analysis is most meaningful. Cytology primarily plays a significant role in preventing cervical cancer. Wide use of Pap tests drastically reduced the number of women with the cervical cancer in advanced stage, and consequently mortality. It is believed that in this day and age not a single woman who has regular check-ups should die of cervical cancer. By applying a multidisciplinary approach, which means good co-operation between doctors, gynecologists, cytologists and pathologists, we can define premalignant and malignant cervical lesions with more precision and provide the best results in the detection and treatment of premalignant cervical lesions. Puncture results are available in 3 to 5 days, and Pap tests in seven to ten days, which allows for speedy diagnostics or the beginning of treatment if the patient’s health condition requires it.
Dermatology
Dermatology is a branch of medicine that deals with the examination, diagnostics and treatment of skin and its appendages (olfactory glands, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, mammary glands, hair and nails) as well as visible mucous. The skin is the largest and the most visible body organ. It serves as protection from microorganisms, regulates body temperature, is a sensory organ, and has an active role in the immune system and protects us from injuries, infections and environment influence.
The skin undergoes many changes during its life cycle. Depending on genetics, skin type and constitution, the changes can be discrete and small in number, or numerous, depending on the person. Every skin change, whether it is a change in color or some other change, demands a detailed dermatological check-up and often includes a dermatoscopy, which helps the dermatologist differentiate skin changes and evaluate which changes need to be removed.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also called Physical Therapy, is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of various disorders in the human organism by means of various physical methods. It places special emphasis on those who need to regain control of lost functions and abilities (rehabilitation). Physiatrics deals with a wide range of muscular-skeletal system diseases, not primarily in the job description of a physical therapy specialist, such as contractures and muscular atrophy after fracture, brain injury aftereffects, rehabilitation of those suffering from cardiovascular diseases, etc. All of the above mentioned demands team work, and the physiatrist is the team leader in most cases.
The physiatrist in Sunce Polyclinic attends to every person with care and an individual approach, and after a conversation, specialist check-up and performed diagnostics, explains the diagnosis to the patient as well as the steps necessary for treatment.
A physiatrist is a physician specialist of physical and rehabilitation medicine who treats a wide range of medical problems in order to restore lost functions and abilities. Some physiatrists have a wide aspect of interests which comprise patients of all age groups, whereas other physiatrists have very defined interests and are focused only on specific groups or problems (e.g. Physiatrists which are involved in sports medicine in terms of prevention and treatment of sports related injuries).
Physical therapy or physiotherapy is a service which is performed or supervised by the physiatrist, and includes treatment with the help of special apparatuses which use the biological effects of physical agents (light, sound, water, electric energy, magnets…).
The most common diseases we treat in our physical medicine practice are:
- degenerative spine illnesses (cervical, thoracal, lumbar syndrome, radiculopathy, ischialgy, discus hernia, spondyloarthrosis…)
- sports related degenerative joints illnesses (soft tissue injuries, contusion, distortion, hematomas, joint injuries, injury of the ligament apparatus, muscle rupture, myalgia, arthralgia, plantar fasciitis, spinalis…)
- tendon-ligament apparatus inflammation (tendinitis, epicondylitis, periarthritis, bursitis…)
- post-operative and post-traumatic conditions
- various ethyology aches (neuropathy-diabetic, compressive radiopathy, post-operative aches)
- peripheral nerve injury (paresis, paralysis…)
- corrective kinetic therapy exercises in cases of bad posture, scoliosis, kyphosis and spinal pain syndrome prevention.
Surgery/Proctology
Proctology deals with problems, aches and diseases of the colon, particularly end of the colon. The end of the colon comprises the last 20 centimetres of the colon (rectum) including the anus. According to statistics, 75% of adults are facing end of the colon problems. It is important to note the importance of a timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, which, besides a proctologist’s check-up, includes several therapeutic-diagnostic procedures such as a proctoscopy, internal hemorrhoids ligation, external hemorrhoids incision or removal, etc.
Occupational Medicine
Occupational medicine is a preventive profession with the primary objective to provide high quality service in prevention and safeguarding of public health and professional disease diagnostics.
We are making an effort to understand the relationship between work and health. Using a medical approach, we evaluate the connection between symptoms and diseases of employees and their work, as well as the effects of employees’ diseases on their ability to work. We advocate a healthy work environment, and we believe that a detailed professional anamnesis, as well as medical check-up and evaluation of exposure at work, is the key to diagnosing work-related diseases.
Through a network of occupational medicine practices in the fully equipped Sunce Polyclinic, we ensure a coordinated provision of health care services in close collaboration with experienced staff and a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to public health in our region.
Neurology
Neurology is a branch of medicine that deals with disorders of the nervous system, primarily disease diagnostics and treatment caused by pathological processes and structural injuries of the central (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral (peripheral nerves) nervous system.
Neurology primarily deals with causes of focal neurological outbursts, that is, disease symptoms which correspond to functional outbursts of certain body parts, such as vision disorder which cannot be attributed to eye diseases, facial and/or bodily muscles function disorders (muscle weakness, awkwardness, sensory processing disorder – tingling, burning, loss of some sensory qualities), acquired speech impediment, and consciousness disorders.
Ophthalmology
We often don’t pay attention to our eyes when everything is functioning as it should. We forget that the eyes are a part of an entire system and that they share the same destiny. We are used to the fact that bad vision can be adjusted with a pair of glasses. However, dioptre is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, as there are many other problems that could ruin your sight.
You cannot feel the processes going on inside your eye, as there are no visible signs of sickness on the outside. The patient can only notice loss of vision. And that happens gradually. Irreparable changes could have happened by then, and sight may have been lost to some extent forever. No glasses can aid an eye that is sick on the inside.
An eye check-up is one of the best possible ways to protect your vision, since it can discover eye problems at the very onset, while they are still curable. Regular eye check-ups can help you correct or adjust vision changes at the right time. Your ophthalmologist will give you advice as to how to protect your vision or alleviate the disorder.
It is very important to control your eye pressure, especially if someone in your family suffered from glaucoma. Anyone can suffer from glaucoma, without even being aware of it until it is too late. That is why it needs to be discovered at an early stage before the incurrence of considerable eye damage, in order to begin treatment on time.
Modern, unhealthy and stressful lifestyles give way to rising numbers of people suffering from high blood sugar, blood pressure and high concentration of fat in blood. People suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and those prone to vein thrombosis; those who take anticoagulant therapy, or have circulation disorders have problems which may lead to vision cell death of macula in the eye. In today’s day, maculopathy is the second-leading cause of loss of vision next to glaucoma. Damaged blood vessels can start to bleed or get clogged. That is why it is so important to detect changes in the blood vessels of the eye at an early stage, and thus ensure timely treatment. The longer you leave the disorder untreated, your chances of vision recovery decrease.
A check-up of the interior surface of the eye (fundus) gives valuable information to other specialists: internists, neurologists, vascular surgeons, etc. The condition of the heart, brain vessels, as well as other organ’s vessels are closely linked to the condition of the interior of the eye vessels. The pupil serves as a window through which blood vessels can be seen with the help of an ophthalmoscope, after which it is possible to evaluate the condition of circulation for the entire body.
Otorhinolaryngology
Otorhinolaryngology is a branch of medicine that deals with diagnostics and treatment of ear, nose and throat related diseases. A standard otorhinolaryngological check-up consists of an examination of the throat by means of an indirect laryngoscopy, examination below the back of the throat using a small mirror, nose check with a speculum, and ear check with an otoscope which is introduced into the ear in order to widen the ear canal.
At Sunce Polyclinic, a standard otorhinolaryngological check-up is much more pleasant because it is performed with local anaesthesia of the mucosa, and includes a fibro endoscopy throat and nose check, as well as an otomicroscopic ear check. It is a comprehensive, detailed check-up, with radiology diagnostics (CT, MR and US), thus allowing quick and precise diagnostics, and appropriate treatment.
Psychiatry
Psychiatry is usually defined as a medical occupation that deals with the incurrence, development, and manifestation of human personality illness resulting from subjective individual life or its relationship with the environment. It is focused on personality and the human being in its totality of life, as embedded in the social environment. For a better understanding of problems and distorted personality manifestations as well as mental illnesses, psychiatry uses insights from other scientific disciplines that deal with an individual’s physical and mental health.
Psychiatry can be perceived as a form of treatment for people who need support and a tool for getting by in everyday situations. It gives us an opportunity to get to know others and ourselves and in that way achieve a better quality of life.
Psychology
In the last few decades, psychology has developed greatly as a scientific discipline that studies human behavior and mental processes. Research in the field of psychology is exploring various aspects of human functioning, trying to find an answer to questions such as: how do we perceive objects in our environment, and how do we perceive ourselves and people around us? How do children learn languages? How do they learn to read and write? Which brain structures are the bases for emotions? What makes us behave in a certain way? Why are some people more aggressive or more open than others? What is the difference between a man and a woman? To which extent is intelligence important in education? How do we form opinions and how do we change them? What are the effects of stress on physical and mental health? What causes various mental disorders? And so on.
Psychology is making an effort to answer these questions and many other questions important to man, and can contribute to better adjustment, more efficient behavior, simpler problem solving, encouraging creativity, and realization of human potential.
A psychologist’s scope of work consists of applying modern psychology insights to everyday life. Psychologists use methods, instruments, techniques and skills to establish mental conditions and human characteristics in order to have a better understanding of mental processes and behaviors, and to describe them in a better way, with the purpose of supporting development and growth. Therefore, the need for psychologists is equal in both public and private sectors, in different fields of human activity, and especially in those related to work and work management, employment and professional orientation, communication and the market, upbringing and education, research, healthcare, sports, social care, transportation, law, the military and police.
Urology
Urology is a branch of clinical medicine that deals with etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment of urinary tract diseases in men and women as well as male reproductive organs. It also deals with the prevention of genitourinary system disease, especially prostate diseases.
At Sunce Polyclinic, urology-related problems affect people of different ages. Each patient is treated individually, and early diagnosis and treatment facilitates therapy and prevents complications be it common discomforts (infections, benign prostatic hyperplasia), or malignant diseases where early diagnosis is of utmost importance for successful treatment.
The most common reasons patients decide to visit an urologist are urinary tract infections, urinary tract stones, and prostate diseases. Unfortunately, some discomforts that make patients turn to us are often caused by malignant genitourinary system diseases (kidneys, bladder, prostate, and testis).
Prevention and early diagnosis of prostate cancer plays a significant role in urology. Every asymptomatic male (who does not have discomforts related to the genitourinary system) over the age of 45 should go for their first prostate check-up, including those over the age of 40 who have someone in their family suffering from prostate cancer.
