Blepharoplasty
The surgical procedure to reshape the droopy eyelids.
When is surgical procedure required?
As we age we tend to develop puffy bags under our eyes and hooding over the upper eyelids, due to the effects of gravity, sun damage stress and strains in daily life. The effect that this procedure creates is a more fresh, youthful and wide-awake appearance.
What does the surgery include?
Blepharoplasty is a simple cosmetic procedure that removes the excess fat, usually along with the excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure takes 2 hours, is performed under general or local anaesthesia with intravenous sedation and can be done alone or in conjunction with other plastic facial surgeries such as a facelift.
How to get prepared?
The day before surgery, a patient should eat light food and stop smoking and drinking alcohol and should not take anything orally after a night’s sleep. The patient may begin reading 2 to 3 days after the surgery and can expect to return to work after 5 to 10 days. Use of contact lens may be resumed after 2 weeks, upon re-evaluation by the physician. More strenuous activities and alcohol consumption may be resumed after 3 weeks. Bruising and swelling should be resolved after several weeks.
Related tests and examinations:
Physical examination and tests indicated by the anaesthesiologist (laboratory tests, ECG, heart and lung X-ray scan, physical examination by another specialist) should be performed after the examination by a plastic surgeon.
