Breast augmentation
The procedure to increase breast volume.
When is surgical procedure required?
The surgery is performed due to aesthetic reasons in order to transform the appearance of the breasts.
What does the surgery include?
The procedure improves the size and appearance of the breasts by implanting saline or silicone implants if applicable (the use of gel-filled implants may be regulated by government) either under or over the chest muscle, thus producing a cosmetic enhancement.
The procedure takes up to 2 hours and is performed under general or local anaesthesia with intravenous sedation.
How to get prepared?
The day before surgery, a patient should eat light food and stop smoking and drinking alcohol and not take anything orally after a night’s sleep. The patient can return to work within a few days. It is recommended to avoid any physical contact with breasts for the next 3 to 4 weeks and to wear a bra all the time. Scars should fade and flatten in 3 months to 2 years following surgery.
Related tests and examinations:
Physical examination and tests indicated by the anaesthesiologist (laboratory tests, ECG, heart and lung X-ray scan, physical examination by another specialist) should be performed after the examination by a plastic surgeon.
