Hymenoplasty
The procedure of hymen reconstruction.
When is surgical procedure required?
The procedure is performed due to the patient’s personal reasons.
What does the surgery include?
Hymenoplasty involves repairing and reconstructing the hymen or the thin, elastic membrane which typically covers part of the vaginal entrance. The procedure takes 30 to 60 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia or combined with intravenous sedation.
How to get prepared?
The day before surgery, a patient should eat light food and stop smoking and drinking alcohol and not take anything orally after a night’s sleep. The patient can return to work within 7 days. Avoiding any sexual contact for approximately 6 weeks is recommended.
Related tests and examinations:
Physical examination and tests indicated by the anaesthesiologist (laboratory tests, ECG, heart and lung X-ray scan, physical examination by another specialist) should be performed after the examination by a plastic surgeon.
