Laparoscopic hysterectomy and adnexectomy (LPSC)
Laparoscopic hysterectomy and adnexectomy is also known as the laparoscopic removal of the uterus and ovaries.
When is the surgical procedure required?
The surgery is performed when the removal of the uterus and ovaries prove to be necessary due to benign tumors, uterine myomas, endometrioma or other ovarian cystic lesions.
What does the procedure include?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. It combines the transvaginal and endoscopic approach to the uterus and ovaries, starting with the circular incision through which the cervical fascia is surgically manipulated and the urinary bladder is separated. It is followed by the posterior incision performed allowing the intraperitoneal approach, followed by the ligation of the uterine ligaments and the removal of the uterus. The additional advantage is the possibility of higher quality management of the accompanied defects of the pelvic floor or potential static incontinence and faster recovery.
How to get prepared?
Day before surgery a patient should eat light food and stop smoking and drinking alcohol and not take anything orally after a night’s sleep. A patient should rest for 24 hours after the surgery where in-patient treatment may be needed for several days. A patient is to avoid sexual intercourse after the surgery and completely returns to his routine in three months.
Related tests and examinations:
Gynecologic examination broaden with ultrasound examination and Color-Doppler sonography (CD). Physical examination and tests indicated by the anaesthesiologist (laboratory tests, ECG, heart and lung X-ray scan, physical examination by other specialist) should be performed.
