Microphlebectomy
The procedure is also known as the phlebectomy, mini-phlebectomy, surgical removal of varicose veins.
Why would you need the procedure?
Microphlebectomy is performed in case of recurrent varicose veins. It is accompanied by a laser treatment or traditional surgical procedure for varicose veins.
When would you need the procedure?
This procedure is indicated when varicose veins cause discomforts (pain, cramps, itching, heaviness and edema of the legs), complications (bleeding, inflammation, ulcers) or pose an aesthetic problem.
What does the procedure include?
Varicose superficial veins are removed through small skin incisions. It is performed under local anaesthesia. The incisions are closed by using steri-strips or simple surgical sutures.
How to get prepared?
A patient is to shave the affected leg and groin at home, on the day of the procedure or one day before the procedure. A patient is to wear elastic compression stockings for 4 weeks after the procedure. In the first week, elastic compression stockings should be worn during the night and day, but in the following 3 weeks only during the day. In the first week, it is important to avoid standing and sitting for a longer time. A patient could resume his sport activities after 4-6 weeks.

Color Doppler ultrasound examination of the veins on the legs should be performed before the procedure as well as a preoperative work up for minor outpatient procedures.
