Testicular implant/prosthesis
The procedure to fill empty space in the scrotum by prosthetic material.
When is surgical procedure required?
Men may undergo orchiectomy or surgical removal of their testicles because of testicular cancer, trauma, or may be born with a poorly formed or absent testicle.
What does the surgery include?
An implant is sized to match the normal testicle, or when both testicles are absent, sized to fill the scrotum so that it appears as desired. The procedure takes 60 minutes and is performed under local or local anaesthesia with intravenous sedation.
How to get prepared?
The day before surgery a patient should eat light food and stop smoking and drinking alcohol and not take anything orally after a night’s sleep. The patient can return to work within 7 days. Avoiding any sexual contact for approximately 6 weeks is recommended.
Related tests and examinations:
Physical examination and tests indicated by the anaesthesiologist (laboratory tests, ECG, heart and lung X-ray scan, physical examination by another specialist) should be performed after the examination by a plastic surgeon.
