Tonsillectomy
The procedure is also known as the surgery to remove the palatine tonsils.
When is the surgical procedure required?
The surgery is indicated in children or adults who have recurrent pharyngitis accompanied by sore throat and fever or in children who have nasal breathing difficulties or who snore and breathe through the mouth at night. An otorhinolaryngology specialist will indicate a surgery if a physical examination shows enlarged tonsils in children or in case of recurrent episodes of the streptococcal pharyngitis in children or adults.
What does the surgery include?
The surgery is performed in a way to remove the tonsils or adenoid in children, under general anaesthesia.
How to get prepared?
Day before surgery a patient should eat light food and stop smoking and drinking alcohol and not take anything orally after a night’s sleep.
Related tests and examinations:
Otorhinolaryngologist examination and physical examination and tests indicated by the anaesthesiologist (laboratory tests, ECG, heart and lung X-ray scan, physical examination by other specialist) should be performed.
